Enjoy Your Honeymoon in Mykonos

Mykonos, the Island of Winds, is the most visited island in Greece, and it earns that distinction. Celebrities, artists, young couples, and seasoned travellers all find something here: glamorous beach clubs on one side of the island, quiet whitewashed villages on the other. For honeymooners, the appeal is the rare ability to calibrate your days entirely to your mood.

Getting There

Getting there is straightforward. A connecting flight from Athens' Eleftherios Venizelos airport takes under an hour, or you can take a high-speed ferry from Piraeus or Rafina, the sea approach, watching the windmills appear on the horizon, is well worth the extra time. Once on the island, taxis, buses, and small boats take you between the main town and the beaches.

Mykonos Town

A morning in Chora before the day-trippers arrive is one of the great pleasures of Mykonos. The Paraportiani church, five interconnected chapels, whitewashed and asymmetrical, is the most photographed building on the island, and rightly so. The Archaeological Museum houses remarkable finds from the neighbouring island of Delos. Little Venice, where medieval houses hang directly over the water, comes into its own at sunset. Matogianni Street is the place for shopping, jewellery, art, and fashion that reflects the island's cosmopolitan character.

The Beaches

The beaches each have a distinct personality. Elia is the longest sandy beach and attracts a sophisticated crowd; parasailing and windsurfing are available for those who want activity. Super Paradise and Paradise Beach are famous for their all-day parties and beach clubs. Paranga has two sides, one organised and social, one quiet enough to feel genuinely secluded. The right beach depends entirely on what kind of afternoon you have in mind.

Beyond the Crowds

For those willing to venture beyond the main circuit, the village of Ano Meria in the island's northwest offers a completely different Mykonos: family-run farms, wood-oven bread, and traditional recipes that haven't changed in generations. Bicycle tours through the interior reveal unspoilt countryside and beaches that the crowds rarely reach. It's a reminder that even the most famous islands have corners that remain entirely their own.
