Discover Skopelos Island – Where the pine trees meet the sea
The Greek islands are ideal for a romanic honeymoon, or just a getaway from it all. The Sporades Islands, in Northern Aegean, 24 islands in all but only four permanently inhabited are becoming increasingly popular. Skopelos being one of them, second in size is also known as the ‘Forest Island’ as it it the greenest of all. Its thick, pine forests cover the greatest part all the way down to the coastline.

The stunning view of the brightest, white church Panagitsa of Pyrgos, perched imposingly on the highest part of Chora.
There, you find a wide range of accomodation, from cosy homely studios to five-star luxury spa hotels with all facilities to have a pleasant and comfortable stay. Chora retains the traditional architecture, and you can enjoy wandering the narrow cobbled streets of the town. Early in the evening you should start your climb up the stairs to Panagitsa of Pyrgos, it is worth the effort, as the stunning view of the town below and of the blue sea, will reward you.
The island’s coast offers a variety of beaches, golden sandy beaches or fine pebbled ones like Agnontas, Stafylos, Panormos, Elios, Milia. Wherever you choose to go you will enjoy swimming in clean crystal clear sea that you will find it difficult to come out of the water. Some provide watersports facilities whereas others are more secluded, reached mainly by boat ideal for romance and honeymooners. And of course the Kastani,famous as the beach in Mamma Mia film.
However, as all parts of Greece, there are ancient remains to visit from the Bronze Age to the Roman Times. Sentoukia, a nice place where according to a legend, a famous pirate buried seven chests with valuable treasure. Take a trip to the past when you visit the folklore museum in Glossa. At Loutraki port, you can see the church of Saint Ioannis, where the wedding scene of Mamma Mia was filmed. Don’t forget your camera as you can take the best picures of your honeymoon there.
Everywhere you go, you find traditional family-run tavernas, with the best local tastes. You should try fresh fish, brought in every morning, meat dishes flavoured with plums, a local specialty and sip Greek wine or tsipouro.
In Skopelos you can spend a very relaxing honeymoon. As most accomodations are on the waterfront, everything is within walking distance unless you wish to explore the beauty of the island .
